CBAP Recertification Steps

CBAP Recertification – A comprehensive guide to the renewal process

Or maybe you were not able to maintain the minimum required 60 continuing development units to hold your CBAP Certification. In such situations, you can always apply for CBAP Recertification.

The reason why candidates have to maintain their CBAP Certification every three years is to demonstrate their ongoing professional devotion to the business analysis domain and to ensure that they are continually contributing to the profession while keeping up with any new changes. CBAP Recertification Process

Here is the guide to the CBAP Recertification process that you can go through.

I. Earn a minimum of 60 Continuing Development Units

The first and foremost step for the recertification process is earning the minimum requirement of 60 continuing development units (CDUs). For the CDUs, you can refer to the points mentioned above.

II. Enter your hours into the BA Development Log

After you have earned the minimum of 60 CDUs, you have to enter them in the BA development log on the official IIBA portal. You can easily follow this detailed guide on how to enter the hours into the BA development log.

This section involves all 6 categories under which you can earn your CDUs. Therefore, all you have to do is enter the CDUs per category.

III. Pay Recertification Fee

After entering your hours or CDUs in the BA development log, the next step is to pay the CBAP recertification fees, which is as follows:

IIBA member- $85

IIBA non-member- $120

The recertification fee can be paid with a credit card, cheque or money order. Once the recertification fee is paid, it is non-refundable.

IV. Submit recertification spplication

Once you have paid the recertification fees, all you have to do is agree to the following attestations and submit the recertification application:

  • Code of conduct
  • Terms and conditions

V. Receive A Confirmation Email From IIBA

Upon successfully submitting the recertification fees along with the application, you will receive an approval email from IIBA that you have been recertified. However, there are chances that your application can be selected for an audit. An audit is nothing, but a process through which IIBA verifies the details and information submitted by you in your recertification application.

On successfully clearing the audit process, you will receive an approval application from IIBA congratulating you on getting recertified.

Important aspects of recertification processes

I. Audit procedures

  • All recipients are eligible to be subject to an audit at any time, according to the IIBA® auditing terms.
  • Email notifications will be sent to those chosen for an audit, giving them 60 days from the date of the email to comply with the request's terms. If more time is needed, the Certification Body may decide to extend it.
  • The entire audit procedure could take up to two months, with a minimum of two weeks needed from the moment IIBA® receives the final piece of data. The audit results will be sent via email as soon as all the data has been received by IIBA® and has been analysed.
  • The recipient's certification status will remain in effect throughout the audit in its current certification status until the audit is finished. Only after the audit has been successfully completed and all audit requirements have been met will recipients be allowed to recertify.
  • The audit's supporting documentation must unequivocally match the entries submitted for recertification. The process will be delayed if this is not done.
  • An audit will be conducted on a section of the recipients who were chosen randomly. After the three-year cycle has ended, documentation for CDU claims must be kept on file for another 12 months.

II. Process for requesting an appeal

  • Recipients have the right to appeal any denial of recertification by sending an email to certification@iiba.org.
  • IIBA® shall review the appeal and provide a binding determination regarding the admissibility of the recipient's recertification within a period of up to 90 days.
  • If more information or clarification is required to verify recertification information, IIBA® may get in touch with the recipient. The person will then receive a final decision via email.

III. Responsibilities to the professional field

Certified professionals have ongoing responsibilities to the business analysis profession. These responsibilities are outlined in the Code of Ethical Conduct and Professional Standards, which recipients must review and agree to online during the recertification process.

IV. Status of certification in retirement

  • Recipients can choose to change their certification status from Certified to Certified (Retired) if they are no longer able to earn CDUs for recertification through practicing, instructing, or coaching business analysis.
  • Before switching to the retired certification status, credential holders should be aware of all the costs involved.
  • If a certification holder is unsure whether or not they will remain fully retired from their profession, IIBA advises them to maintain their certification.
  • Reactivating IIBA certifications can be difficult, particularly if the retired recipient isn't consistently pursuing CDUs or is outside the allotted time frame.
  • Contact info@iiba.org for details on how to apply for Retired Certification status.
