CCBA Certification Overview

As per the International Institute of Business Analysis™ (IIBA®) 2020 Global Business Analysis Salary Survey Report, business analysts who hold at least one certification earn 13% higher than non-certified respondents. An IIBA® certification makes a business analysis professional more marketable, employable and improves earning potential and CCBA® is no different. Eligibility Criteria for CCBA Certification

The IIBA website specifies the eligibility criteria for this certification as follows:

  • Complete a minimum of 3,750 hours of Business Analysis work experience in the last 7 years.
  • Within these 3750 minimum hours required, a minimum of 900 hours must be completed in each of 2 of the 6 BABOK® Guide Knowledge Areas OR, a minimum of 500 hours must be completed in each of 4 of the 6 BABOK® Guide Knowledge Areas.
  • Complete a minimum of 21 hours of Professional Development within the last 4 years.
  • Provide references.
  • Agree to Code of Conduct.
  • Agree to Terms and Conditions.
  • Pass the exam.

There is no criterion of having the designation of a business analyst. Your experience should be in the field of business analysis, even if your designation is NOT of a business analyst.

The CCBA exam is based on business analysis body of knowledge (BABOK) version 3. This book comprises knowledge areas. The table below shows the weightage of each knowledge area for the CCBA exam:

CCBA Certification Exam Pattern

CCBA exam is a multiple-choice question-based exam. The questions are based on the BABOK guide. The number of questions is in proportion to the weightage of knowledge areas as mentioned above. The questions, multiple-choice in nature, are designed to test your ability to apply the BABOK® concepts. The questions are not very straightforward i.e. there is a very slight chance of direct questions from BABOK®. The majority of questions will be scenario-based and will need a logical approach while keeping the time factor in mind.

Some key points about the CCBA exam are:

  • There are 130 MCQs.
  • Duration of the exam is 180 minutes (3 hours).
  • Each question will have four options.
  • Every question will have one correct answer.
  • There are no negative markings.

CCBA Certification Cost

The Certification cost comprises 3 components – the membership fees, application fees, and exam fees. The membership fees depend on the region of which your country of residence is a part. The application fee is USD 125, which is non-refundable, whereas the examination fee is USD 325 for members and USD 450 for non-members.

You do not need to be an IIBA® member to apply for certification. However, there are many benefits of becoming an IIBA® member. These include, but are not limited to, discounted certification exam fees (which is evident from the below table), discounted recertification fees, a free PDF copy of the BABOK® Guide, and much more.

Membership fees – USD 55, Application fees are USD 125, and the exam fees are USD 325 resulting in a total fee of USD 505.
