Background
She has 18 years of experience in various roles in the industries of IT domain as a business analyst. In business analysis, some roles are on an agile framework that we do, so right now, I’m a product owner in an agile project, and my domain is healthcare. I’m based out of the US and Canada region, so I have over 12 years of experience working as a lead practitioner in large IT firms for various healthcare clients.
When did she do the certification?
Manideepa was already prepared to pursue CBAP certification during the pandemic. However, even the pandemic situation gave her an open ground to pursue her certification journey. As she says, “ I did CBAP in the summer of this year when I took the exam, and preparation started last fall around the pandemic.”
When did she decide to go for CBAP certification?
According to Manideepa, her journey into the certification started during the pandemic period. As she says, “So it was a little bit into the pandemic and everything was different for us.” So, CBAP was on my wishlist for a long time because I kind of went into the business analysis profession from my role as a developer. I had graduated in it, but I hadn’t taken a professional course because it was more into work-related and job training. So, somewhere I always had it in my mind that I wanted to do this, and it just seemed like a perfect opportunity during the pandemic to go ahead and get it done.

Preparation and planning for the certification
While planning for the certification, Manideepa followed two phases. According to her, “ the planning and study were done in two phases.” In the first phase, she took Techcanvass study material and started reading it thoroughly, but she figured out that she required some help to go through the vast syllabus of CBAP. Then she did a lot of research and took a CBAP certification course from Techcanvass.
She says, “It was beneficial finding out what kind of exam it is, the important parts, and how to prepare. So that was a good step in the right direction. After that, I just did the Techcanvass course and read their material”.
Just before the exam, she was very rigorous about it. She was well versed with the material but somehow was not prepared for the exam. So, she started deep-diving into everything, like memorizing and mind mapping, and all of this happened in the last two months. So that was phase 2 for her preparation.

Mental Status during exam
Before the exam, even if you have read the material a lot of times, it feels like you have prepared nothing. In this case, you do not have to cram up the material but thoroughly understand it. This whole thing is essential for the case study questions, but on the day of the exam, I felt that there was a lot of stuff out there that I would have gone through one more time. But when I appeared for the exam, the fun fact is that I had a lot of fun. I had a lot of fun with the case study questions. They were a little tricky, they made me think, and it was fun. But, of course, those case study questions were tougher ones, and in others, there was a percentage of questions where you had to know it from memory and refer back to the material. So those were easier.
Tips for Cracking the CBAP Examination
According to the Manideepa, go through the material several times, like first imbibe it in yourself and like at a high level, and then there are two ways to adapt the material.
- One, you will see a lot of definitions, a lot of terms that you need to understand and commit to the memory.
- But there is also an entire structure of the document, and the material is so vast as you have to make a mind map of it, and that is one of the things that a business analyst uses, a mind map.
- You need to figure out how the information is mapped out to your mind in the best possible way because it’s impossible to line by line memorize the whole material.
- So, you need to understand it thoroughly and learn how to apply it to the questions that are coming to the case study-related questions.

After Cracking the CBAP Examination
Manideepa says, “ It boosts your confidence and gives you an upper hand amongst other team members.” But, it just formalizes your knowledge, and you do have to put in the time and effort, all of that into it.
